Unmissable TV deal sees LG C4 OLED fall to the lowest price we've seen

Throughout the year we keep a keen eye on the prices of our favourite OLED TVs – especially during, and in the lead-up to, big sales events – so we can help readers bag the best telly bargains. It is paying off today as we have spotted an unmissable deal on one of our favourite TVs of the year, just days ahead of the Amazon Prime Day 2 deals event.

LG's C4 OLED has won five-star reviews from our TV experts this year in its 42-, 48- and 65-inch form, and now the smallest of those sizes has dropped to the lowest price we have seen. The OLED42C4 now costs just $947 at Amazon. The deal is also available at Walmart and Crutchfield, and is only $3 more at Best Buy, too.

This is a $200 saving on the typical price of the 42-inch OLED TV nowadays, and $553 cheaper than the price it launched at in March. Considering our in-house reviews team called it "the best small OLED TV money can buy right now" in our LG C4 42-inch review when testing it at that original RRP, it is a downright bargain now at under $1000.

The new C4 is a surprisingly big upgrade on the C3, proving brighter, sharper and with much better sound. You won't find a better-performing TV at this modest size, and at this price it is totally irresistible. Five stars

LG C4 42-inch OLED TV review

Our overall verdict on the C4 is that it represents a surprisingly large upgrade on the C3 of last year. Big improvements have been made to brightness and sharpness, presenting an image with lots of dynamism and rich, vibrant colours.

The LG 42OLEDC4 delivers, to quote our review, "a wonderfully punchy, immersive viewing experience despite its small form factor, with noticeably higher peak brightness than its older rivals".

Our TV reviews experts compared this 42-incher with its 48-inch sibling, as well as larger variants of other step-down OLEDs, including the Sony Bravia 8, and concluded that it is the best 42-inch OLED they have tested.

Its sound quality isn't all that, but most built-in TV speaker systems are passable at best, and that is particularly true of smaller sets that are short on physical space. Add a soundbar to your shopping list, and that solves that issue. Sound aside, however, there is nothing to fault with the LG. In fact, it is very generous in the feature and specs department.

The C4 features four HDMI 2.1 ports, which is great news for anyone planning to connect game consoles or soundbars via eARC. There's also support for ALLM, VRR, and 144Hz compatibility. As with all LG TVs, HDR10+ is not supported by the C4, but as Dolby VisionHLG and standard HDR10 format are onboard, we don't consider this an issue.

For $947 at Amazon, the 42-inch LG C4 is a small TV bargain if ever we've seen one.

I’m blown away by how much better the LG C4 is than the C3
