A TV is only as good as the content you watch on it. While there’s no shortage of streaming services available, only one is made for content lovers, by entertainment experts, combining next-level audio/visual technologies with the latest content from cutting-edge creators. Welcome to Sony’s BRAVIA CORE.
All Sony’s 2022 XR TVs come with access to BRAVIA CORE, so if you buy a new XR OLED TV, you’ll have access to some of the finest content around in the best picture quality going. That’s thanks to Pure Stream, which streams HDR movies at up to 80Mbps (which is similar in quality to a 4K Blu-ray); the largest collection of IMAX Enhanced certified movies available anywhere in the world; and of course the stunning screen technology of the Sony XR TVs themselves.
Let’s see what BRAVIA CORE has to offer.
1. Uncharted
The bestselling video games franchise spawned one of the highest-grossing films of 2022. Uncharted stars Tom Holland as intrepid explorer Nathan Drake, who is recruited by Victor Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg) to find the fabled treasure before corrupt billionaire Santiago Moncada (Antonio Banderas) and mercenary leader Jo Braddock (Tati Gabrielle). Even if you haven’t played the games, anyone with a sense of adventure will enjoy this Indiana Jones-style romp.
2. Spider-Man: No Way Home
Tom Holland once again steps into his Spidey suit, this time to ask Dr. Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to make his secret identity a secret once again, after it was revealed at the end of 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home. But when Strange’s magic spell goes wrong, the multiverse is broken open, allowing all kinds of visitors from alternative realities to enter our hero’s world and wreak havoc.
3. Bloodshot
Vin Diesel is Ray Garrison, aka Bloodshot, a US soldier who after being killed by mercenaries is brought back to life with superpowers by an organisation that wants to use him as a weapon. It’s based on the Valiant Comics character of the same name, and also stars Guy Pearce, Eiza González and Sam Heughan.
4. Morbius
Another Marvel superhero film, another great watch. Again it’s set in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, with Jared Leto as Dr. Michael Morbius, who, after curing himself of a rare blood disease, turns into a vampire along with his brother Milo (Matt Smith). Also stars Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, and Tyrese Gibson.
5. Jumanji: The Next Level
It’s a stampede! This fourth instalment in the Jumanji franchise sees Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Jack Black and Kevin Hart reprise their roles from 2017’s Jumani: Welcome to the Jungle, while Danny DeVito and Danny Glover also join the cast. Set two years after Welcome to the Jungle, it sees the same group of teenagers become trapped in Jumanji again – same situation, but with new challenges.
6. Ghostbusters: Afterlife
Who you gonna call? Following 2016’s all-female reboot, this is billed as a sequel to 1989’s Ghostbusters II, and sees the original cast (including Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Sigourney Weaver) reprise their roles. But there are plenty of new faces too, including Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, and the ever-reliable Paul Rudd. The film is set 32 years after the gang first commandeered the Statue of Liberty in Ghostbusters II, and focuses on a single mother and her children who move to an Oklahoma farm they inherited from original Ghostbuster Egon Spengler. Expect spooky goings-on…
7. Venom
This was the first film in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU). It stars Tom Hardy as journalist Eddie Brock who, after unwittingly becoming the host for an alien symbiote, develops superpowers and becomes the titular Venom superhero. It has since birthed a sequel – Venom: Let There Be Carnage, which stars Tom Hardy and is also available on BRAVIA CORE – with a third film also on the way.
8. Little Women
Greta Gerwig’s 2019 coming-of-age drama is the seventh cinematic adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s 1868 classic novel of the same name. So what new can it offer? Well, given recent events, the travails of the March sisters have never been so relevant. An ensemble cast – including Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Laura Dern, Timothée Chalamet, Meryl Streep, Bob Odenkirk, and Chris Cooper – plus Gerwig’s deft writing and direction, earned it six Oscar nominations, with a win for Best Costume Design.
9. Peter Rabbit
Beatrix Potter’s beloved bunny got the big screen treatment in 2018, with Peter being voiced by James Corden. When the late Mr. McGregor’s great nephew arrives and sees just what sort of hi-jinks Peter and his family can get into, Peter is plunged into a world of trouble. Rose Byrne, Domhnall Gleeson and Sam Neill star in person, while it also features the voices of Daisy Ridley, Elizabeth Debicki and Margot Robbie.
10. Bad Boys For Life
Will Smith and Martin Lawrence return as Miami detectives Mike Lowry and Marcus Burnett in the third instalment in the Bad Boys trilogy. And the magic is still there. It sees the quick-talking duo investigate a series of murders tied to Lowrey's troubled past, with all the usual banter and japes that you would expect.
With all these great movies and more at your fingertips, there are more reasons than ever to buy a Sony BRAVIA XR TV.
