Revo's Ikon offers an iPod dock, FM/DAB, internet radio, Last.fm and touchscreen control

Revo Ikon

The £280 unit uses NXT's Balanced Radiator speaker technology, combining the dispersion characteristics of an NXT flat panel with the pistonic action of a conventional speaker.

Power comes from a 2x15W Class D amplifier, the combination giving what Revo describes as "a smooth frequency response, expansive soundstage and deep, satisfying bass."

The 3.5in touchscreen display panel will show station logos, descriptions and track/artist information where digital broadcasters provide it.

And given that the unit can also stream music wirelessly from PCs or Macs connected to a home network, the display can also be used to show disc and track information, including album artwork, when streaming.

At the heart of the Ikon is the latest Venice 8 multistandard module from connected audio technology company Frontier Silicon.

The Ikon also provides access to premium online music services such as Last.fm – available in the UK, Germany and the States –, while US buyers will also be able to access Pandora, Rhapsody and Sirius services.

A 30-day Last.fm trial subscription is provided with the unit, after which users can subscribe for £3 per month.

Revo CEO David Baxter describes Ikon as "The first product to truly deliver on the promise of digital radio, delivering a next generation radio experience complete with icon driven colour touch-screen interface, coverage of multiple radio formats, iPod and iPhone docking and access to premium online music services."

The Ikon is available to pre-order via Revo, Hughes Direct, Advanced MP3 Players, Peter Tyson and Superfi.
