Boston Acoustics has added to its range of outdoor speakers with the new Voyager 5 - a rugged speaker designed to withstand the worst British weather can offer, though not necessarily any ASBO-generating neighbourhood dispute its output may cause.
The Voyager 5s - priced at a very precise £149.50 per pair - are specifically designed for open-air use. This doesn't just mean a tough, weatherproof build claimed to withstand heat and weather extremes, but also suitable sonic modifications.
The two-day speaker design uses a 13cm copolymer DCD woofer for "extended excursion maximum bass response", and a 19mm soft silk-dome tweeter to "deliver a smooth and natural high-frequency response".
Like the iPods many of these will probably end up playing from at parties, the Voyager 5 speakers are available in black or white. They're supplied with heavy-duty aluminium C-brackets, with wall-mounting further eased by their wedge shape.
