NEWS: BBC programmes to be available on iTunes

Popular BBC TV shows such as Little Britain, Torchwood, Spooks and Ashes to Ashes are to be made available for download on Apple's iTunes store. Each episode will cost £1.89.

It's the first time the BBC has charged viewers to download content, and follows the success of its free iPlayer service.

The BBC claims more than 3.5 million shows were streamed or downloaded in the first two weeks after the iPlayer's launch.

"We want to give audiences a wide variety of options on how and where to view their favourite BBC shows," says BBC Worldwide's Simon Danker. "With more people now watching to watch TV shows on their iPods, fans can now enjoy thos shows wherever they are.

Current shows such as Ashes to Ashes will appear on iTunes after they've been made available to view for free on the BBC's iPlayer.
