Magical movie nights on a budget
Sony’s HT-S400 wireless soundbar offers immersive Dolby Digital for only £269

Rich sound and clear dialogue can turn movie nights from average to epic. But what if you’re on a tight budget, or simply don’t have room for a fancy surround sound system? Enter the Sony HT-S400, a stylish 2.1-channel soundbar that delivers 330W of sound for only £269 at Currys.
The HT-S400 might be an “entry-level” model but it feels anything but. The packages includes a 200W soundbar complete with distortion-reducing X-Balanced Speakers, plus a 130W wireless subwoofer. The result? Cinematic sound in a box.
Better still, the HT-S400 supports Dolby Digital and Sony’s own S-Force PRO Front Surround tech, which emulates cinema-style surround sound to make the most of movie soundtracks. There’s no Dolby Atmos, but that’s to be expected given the HT-S400’s remarkably affordable price.
Sony has gone to great lengths to ensure that the HT-S400 is a doddle to set-up, so you can grab some popcorn and dive straight into the on-screen action. Plug in an HDMI ARC or optical cable and you should be up and running in seconds (those with a supported BRAVIA TV can use a wireless Bluetooth A2DP connection, too).
To make your life even easier, the soundbar’s crystal-clear OLED display provides ‘at a glance’ status updates. Got a supported BRAVIA TV? The soundbar settings should automatically appear on your BRAVIA TV, so you can adjust the sound using your existing remote. Clever.
The rumbling wireless subwoofer, with its 160mm speaker unit, is designed to punch out seriously-deep bass. Although, Sony has thoughtfully included a 'Night' mode that dials back the bass for the benefit of your neighbours (even if they do love a bit of Hans Zimmer).
Of course, it’s not all about movies and TV shows. The Sony HT-S400 doubles up as a nifty wireless music system too. So whether you want to stream your tunes from a Bluetooth-capable smartphone, tablet or laptop, you’re good to go.
Ready to replace your TV’s underwhelming built-in speakers with a thrilling Sony soundbar that doesn’t cost the earth? The Sony HT-S400 is available exclusively from Currys for just £269 including free delivery.
