IMAX Enhanced combines the most exciting elements of home entertainment today, optimizing content and devices with IMAX’s best-in-class film technologies and signature sound by DTS.
How? The story actually begins behind the film camera, where IMAX has cultivated relationships with leading filmmakers and studios to deploy its technology in the most exciting theatrical productions. But, after these blockbusters leave the theatre, their lives often continue on in the home.
To address the growing demand from fans to get more IMAX technology in their home viewing experience, IMAX Enhanced leverages IMAX’s exclusive expanded aspect ratio and proprietary Digital Re-mastering (DMR) process to add more image and improve the picture quality for select films available in-home. And, IMAX Enhanced adds heart-pounding DTS sound to create supercharged, premium audio tracks as well.
How can you watch IMAX Enhanced titles? Across the board IMAX has been growing rapidly since launch, meaning there are now more IMAX Enhanced content and devices available than ever before.
Let’s start with where to find IMAX Enhanced content…
IMAX and DTS works directly with three of the biggest players in Hollywood – The Walt Disney Company, Sony Pictures Entertainment, and Paramount Pictures – to make a number of blockbuster titles available in the IMAX Enhanced format at home. The growing catalogue includes all genres, so whether you’re after family-friendly classics or hard-hitting thrillers, IMAX Enhanced has you covered.
When it comes to Disney, IMAX Enhanced officially launched on Disney+ in November, allowing fans to stream some of their favorite Marvel titles in IMAX’s Expanded Aspect Ratio at home for the first time ever with IMAX Enhanced on Disney+. The collaboration brought IMAX Enhanced to the world’s fastest growing streaming platform and in the future will deliver even more enhanced audio and visual technology to Disney+, including immersive IMAX signature sound by DTS.
There’s plenty of other streaming content, too. Last year, Sony announced hundreds of new IMAX Enhanced titles and created the largest IMAX Enhanced movie collection to date. Many of those titles are available on Sony Bravia Core, Sony’s 4K video streaming app, accessed via the company’s high-end Bravia TVs.
In total, IMAX Enhanced has struck deals with 5 streaming platforms so far, including Disney+ (worldwide), Rakuten TV (in Europe), Tencent video (in China), iQIYI (in China) and Tsutaya TV (in Japan), accounting for over one hundred IMAX Enhanced titles available in market in addition to the many other IMAX Enhanced titles available on Blu-ray disc.
Now on to devices…
But first, a quick distinction: All Disney+ subscribers get more picture with IMAX’s Expanded Aspect Ratio across those 13 Marvel titles – all they need to do is hit play.
In addition to that awesome accessibility, however, exists a growing world of IMAX Enhanced certified devices that level up the experience even further, including the 2021 What Hi-Fi Award winning Sony A80J and X90J OLED TVs, as well as some of the finest sets from Hisense, TCL and Xiaomi. You’ll also find that Sony’s premium projectors are IMAX Enhanced, as well as a diverse range of home cinema receivers including the 2021 What Hi-Fi? Award winning Denon AVC-X3700H and AVC-X6700H.
More recently, IMAX Enhanced has certified its first loudspeakers (Polk Reserve and Legend Series), its first soundbars (Philips Fidelio B97), and its first mobile device, the Honor Magic3.
With more and more content and devices to choose from, the future is bright for IMAX Enhanced. Whether you’re a film buff, an audiophile or simply desire excellence, there’s never been a better time to build (or expand upon) your IMAX Enhanced set-up and bring a little more movie magic into your home .
