JBL Bar 300 £350 £245 at Amazon (save £105)
JBL has produced a budget soundbar that is stylish, feature-packed, and Dolby Atmos compatible. All at a price that undercuts most rivals, too. The similarly priced Sony HT-S2000 sounds notably better, however – but if your heart is set on a JBL soundbar, this is a solid choice.

Sony HT-S40R £350 £249 at Amazon (save £101)
Not one we have tested, but wireless 5.1 systems at this price don't come along every day. The catch is that it isn't completely wireless, requiring an included compact wireless amplifier to power the rear speakers. But, if you have the space to house it, this looks to be a decent compact system with Bluetooth, HDMI ARC, a USB port, plus optical and analogue inputs.

Samsung Q990D soundbar system £1699 £939 at Amazon (save £760)
The Q990D looks and is conceptually very similar to the Q990C it replaces, but it sounds significantly better. This is a complete 11.1.4 Dolby Atmos home cinema in a box, and it sounds big, spacious, enveloping and punchy. A great system that is becoming better value all the time.

Standing almost 1.3m wide, Sennheiser's Ambeo Max is not for the faint of heart or short of space, but it takes up much less space than a full home cinema, sounds sensational, and boasts Dolby Atmos and DTS:X support. Picked-up the SONY HT-A7000 soundbar, SA-RS5 rear surrounds & SA-SW5 sub. during SONY’s pre-Xmas promotion to partner existing SONY Bravia XR 4K UHD TV. Combined with price match offer, saved over £900- on SONY UK MSRP.

Despite it’s class leading connectivity, functionality & sonic performance - particularly with respect to movies & TV - i doubt that i’d be willing to part with much more if I was shopping around now. And probably not at SONY’s current prices.

Although complex movie scenes, dialogue & soundtracks are handled with aplomb, i do think there are a few soundbar & sub. options, a couple of them for significantly less, that offer slightly better replay of stereo or multi-channel music.
