Let's face it, there is a clear correlation between TVs getting slimmer and built-in sound getting worse. While the cutting-edge OLEDs are quite literally razor thin, the sacrifice of function for the sake of form is clear, especially when we test TV sound. Usual cons include lacking bass weight, weak projection and muddy vocals.

So, what's the easiest solution? Introducing the humble soundbar, an all-in-one solution for those who want better sound without trailing cables around their living room to serve a full home cinema speaker system. These neat speaker bar solutions sit below your screen and add front-firing sound into the equation, as well as upward-firing and surround sound depending on if you splurge on a Dolby Atmos soundbar.

While these are truly useful pieces of kit, they can also carry rather substantial price tags; especially if you want a good one. Luckily for you, Black Friday is approaching quickly, and a lot of our favourite models are already on sale with huge savings attached. We've compiled the best deals on the internet on everything from affordable options to full packages complete with subwoofers and surround sound speakers.

Not sure which one to pick? Check out our list of the best soundbars for inspiration, or read more of our soundbar reviews to find out which model suits you best.

JBL Bar 300 £350 £249 at Amazon (save £101)
JBL has produced a budget soundbar that is stylish, feature-packed, and Dolby Atmos compatible. All at a price that undercuts most rivals, too. The similarly priced Sony HT-S2000 sounds notably better, however – but if your heart is set on a JBL soundbar, this is a solid choice.

If you're looking for a Dolby Atmos-compatible soundbar that won't break the bank, this Sony model is one of our go-to choices. There are meatier-sounding bars with more features, but the HT-S2000 earned a five-star rating for good reason: it focuses on what's important – sound quality.

Sony HT-S40R £350 £299 at Amazon (save £51)
Not one we have tested, but wireless 5.1 systems at this price don't come along every day. The catch is that it isn't completely wireless, requiring an included compact wireless amplifier to power the rear speakers. But, if you have the space to house it, this looks to be a decent compact system with Bluetooth, HDMI ARC, a USB port, plus optical and analogue inputs.

Samsung Q990D soundbar system £1699 £999 at John Lewis (save £700)
The Q990D looks and is conceptually very similar to the Q990C it replaces, but it sounds significantly better. This is a complete 11.1.4 Dolby Atmos home cinema in a box, and it sounds big, spacious, enveloping and punchy. A great system that is becoming better value all the time.

Picked-up the SONY HT-A7000 soundbar, SA-RS5 rear surrounds & SA-SW5 sub. during SONY’s pre-Xmas promotion to partner existing SONY Bravia XR 4K UHD TV. Combined with price match offer, saved over £900- on SONY UK MSRP.

Despite it’s class leading connectivity, functionality & sonic performance - particularly with respect to movies & TV - i doubt that i’d be willing to part with much more if I was shopping around now. And probably not at SONY’s current prices.

Although complex movie scenes, dialogue & soundtracks are handled with aplomb, i do think there are a few soundbar & sub. options, a couple of them for significantly less, that offer slightly better replay of stereo or multi-channel music.
