We've reached the final day of the second Prime Day in Australia, meaning this is your last chance to snap up some discounted AV tech. Called 'Prime Big Deal Days', Amazon's second big sale kicked off on 8th October and has been running for six days. It will finish at midnight AEST tonight, 13th October.

As with other Prime Day sales, there have been big discounts on everything tech (and everything else) this week as the retailer warms up for the Black Friday deals event in late November.

As with previous events, these "early holiday deals" are exclusive to members of its AU$9.99/month Prime subscription. Don't have Prime? Here's how to sign up and benefit without paying a cent.

Live in Sydney? There is an even greater incentive to subscribe now that Amazon has launched free same-day delivery in Sydney on eligible orders over AU$49. Many other territories in Australia get one-day delivery.

All of the below recommendations are approved by us – the products featured have either been tested by our expert reviews team or are closely related to a product they have tested (a 55-inch TV, when we've only reviewed the 65-inch version, say). Every entry on this list and across all our deals pages has also been thoroughly price-checked, with the product's recent price history factored in, to ensure you're actually getting a good deal.

Best Amazon device deals

Amazon Echo Show 5 (3rd Gen)
Amazon Echo Show 5 (3rd Gen): was AU$169 now AU$119 at Amazon AU

Want all the Alexa smart speaker features with the added bonus of a video screen? Of course you do. The latest Echo Show 5 is a five-star Echo speaker with a display, and is now reduced by a whopping AU$50.

Amazon Echo Show (2nd Gen)
Prime Exclusive
Amazon Echo Show (2nd Gen): was AU$229 now AU$149 at Amazon AU

With a bigger display than the Show 5 above, the Show 8 (2nd Gen) is an affordable addition to your kitchen or bedroom. Whether you want to view recipes while you're cooking or make a video call while you're relaxing in bed, the Echo Show 8 can do it all – and is considerably cheaper than the latest Show 8 for AU$249.

Amazon Echo Dot (5th Gen)
Amazon Echo Dot (5th Gen): was AU$99 now AU$49 at Amazon AU

The 5th Gen Echo Dot continues Amazon's winning success with small smart speakers. It delivers a sound that certainly belies its size (or price, for that matter) and of course has Alexa baked into it to take care of all your questions and commands.

Amazon Echo Pop
Prime Exclusive
Amazon Echo Pop: was AU$79 now AU$32 at Amazon AU

Not the absolute lowest price ever (that was AU$29) but an extra three bucks means this still a great price. The Echo Pop isn't going to worry many other speakers when it comes to outright sound quality, let's be honest, but if you want a simple smart speaker for your bedside table, there's really little else that can compete.

Amazon Echo (4th Gen)
Amazon Echo (4th Gen): was AU$169 now AU$75 at Amazon AU

Alexa feels present and useful but not imposing, the Alexa app support makes placement and multi-room configurations a breeze, and the sound quality, while a step down from ideal, easily passes the sound-per-pound value test for a smart speaker of this modest price. Great value for Prime Day.

Best headphones deals

Sony LinkBuds S
Sony LinkBuds S: was AU$349.99 now AU$158 at Amazon AU

Sony's LinkBuds S are its alternative flagship wireless in-ears, and they're both smaller and lighter than their WF-1000XM5 counterparts, so they're more comfortable to wear, particularly for long periods. As we noted in our 4-star LinkBuds S review, they're still water resistant and offer both good audio quality and noise-reduction. They're also currently massively cheaper than the XM5s via this Amazon deal, which knocks a huge 55% off the RRP. Also available in white.

Sony WF-C500
Sony WF-C500: was AU$149.95 now AU$72 at Amazon AU

Boasting impressive musicality and excellent levels of detail and insight, these comfortable budget earbuds are well worth the investment. The WF-C500 feature 20 hours of battery life, IPX4 splash resistance and Bluetooth 5, and are available in white at this discounted price. Our favourite budget buds, period.

Sony WF-C700N
Sony WF-C700N: was AU$199 now AU$148 at Amazon AU

If you can afford the extra and want noise-cancelling, these model-up Sonys on the WF-C500 above should be your number one pick. They are certainly ours. The WF-C700N offer 7.5 hours of battery life per charge, multipoint Bluetooth and IPX4 water resistance, plus ANC.

Sennheiser Momentum 4 Wireless
Sennheiser Momentum 4 Wireless : was AU$579.95 now AU$338 at Amazon AU

The fourth outing of Sennheiser's Momentum Wireless range of over-ears is nothing short of spectacular. They deliver effective ANC, coupled with a clean and musical sound, which you'll be able to listen to for an incredible 60 hours... far more than their closest competitors elsewhere on this page. They've been down as low as AU$330 during this Prime Day, but this is a great price.

Sennheiser Momentum 4 Wireless (Special Edition Copper Black)
Sennheiser Momentum 4 Wireless (Special Edition Copper Black): was AU$625 now AU$340 at Amazon AU

Somehow, the Special Edition Copper Black model of Sennheiser's fourth generation wireless over-ear cans are down to an even lower price, and would therefore be our outright pick. You're getting the exact same excellent sound quality as the non-Special model, just in a slightly more elegant looking package.

Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4
Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4: was AU$499 now AU$294 at Amazon AU

If you prefer your Sennheiser Momentum 4s to be of the true wireless in-ear variety, then this 41% saving is for you. We gave them a glowing five-star review, praising them for their detailed and dynamic sound, while also finding them incredibly comfortable to wear. A true contender in their class.

Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds
Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds: was AU$449.95 now AU$308.75 at Amazon AU

If you're ok with Moonstone Blue finish, this is a great time to snap up Bose's flagship in-ear buds (other colours are available for AU$369). Ticking all the major boxes of comfort, noise-cancellation and sound quality, there's very little to fault them on... other than, perhaps, their battery life.

Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones
Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones: was AU$649 now AU$499 at Amazon AU

Bose continues its class-leading noise-cancellation legacy with the QuietComfort Ultra headphones and backs that up with exceptional sound quality. We personally weren't too convinced by the new Immersive Audio mode, but the fact it doesn't discriminate against source or streaming service means there is still plenty of appeal. Now discounted in Black, White, Diamond and Sandstone with an additional AU$30 that you can redeem by checking the little box.

Shure Aonic 40
Shure Aonic 40: was AU$429 now AU$314.35 at Amazon AU

We have seen them go lower and while this price now sees them compete with the likes of Bose, Sony and Sennheiser, the Shure Aonic 40 are still a great set. They boast more advanced noise cancellation than the Aonic 50, and 25 hours of battery life. You're also able to fine-tune the sound output thanks to a customisable equaliser. This discount is for the white model, but there's big savings to be had on the black colourway too.

Bose QuietComfort SC Headphones
PRIME EXCLUSIVE
Bose QuietComfort SC Headphones: was AU$499.95 now AU$320 at Amazon AU

If you're finding yourself a bit baffled by Bose's huge range of QuietComfort headphones, we don't blame you. This SC variant gets you the audio brand's current (and well-regarded) mainstream noise-cancelling over-ears with a soft carry case – thus the 'SC' – rather than the hard case the regular version comes with. The cans themselves are identical. We haven't reviewed this pair but they are a modest update on the four-star QuietComfort 45, which we praised for superb noise-cancelling and, OK battery life and decent sound.

Apple AirPods Pro 2 (USB-C)
Apple AirPods Pro 2 (USB-C): was AU$399 now AU$298 at Amazon AU

If you're an Apple user, the AirPods Pro 2 makes a lot of sense. Serving up a comfortable fit, great sound and decent noise-cancellation, not to mention seamless connectivity. There's plenty that will appeal besides the generous discount.

Apple AirPods 3
Apple AirPods 3: was AU$279 now AU$248 at Amazon AU

Decent sound, innovative Apple-centric features, spatial audio support and Pro-inspired redesign with shorter stems – but no ANC. The AirPods 3 with the MagSafe charging case are a good choice for iPhone users, though note that they have now been replaced by the brand-new AU$299 AirPods 4 with ANC.

Sony WF-1000XM5
Sony WF-1000XM5: was AU$399 now AU$341 at Amazon AU

The exemplary Sony WF-1000XM5 wireless earbuds sound more detailed, refined and accomplished than ever. They also pack in some of the most extensive features available for the price. We can't think of a rival pair of wireless buds that can touch them, and this discount is more than welcome.

Sony WH-CH720N
Sony WH-CH720N: was AU$259.95 now AU$188 at Amazon AU

If your budget can't stretch to a pair of Sony XM5 or older XM4 headphones, this more affordable option makes sensible compromises to significantly lower the price, which is even better for Prime Big Deal Days. The WH-CH720N are our favourite Bluetooth over-ears at this price, with fantastic sound and noise cancellation.

Earfun Air
Earfun Air: was AU$60 now AU$39.89 at Amazon AU

These true wireless buds were a bargain at their full launch price, so picking a pair up for half price is something of a no-brainer if you want good sound but are on a super tight budget. These are the cheapest earbuds we can recommend.

Sennheiser CX Plus
Sennheiser CX Plus: was AU$259.95 now AU$125 at Amazon AU

Only the white model is available, but if that's ok for you, then this 52% saving on a talented pair of Sennheiser in-ears is one worthy of consideration. They sport ANC and support for aptX Adaptive and we found them to deliver a confident, punchy sound. We also love the amount of control you have over them within the companion app.

Best hi-fi deals

Yamaha TT-S303 turntable
Prime exclusive
Yamaha TT-S303 turntable: was AU$699 now AU$480 at Amazon AU

While we haven't tested this belt-driven Yamaha turntable ourselves, it does provide an inexpensive route into the world of vinyl. It does have a built-in pre-amp, but if your current amplifier has a phono input, we'd always recommend using that one instead.

WiiM Pro Plus
WiiM Pro Plus: was AU$329 now AU$263.20 at Amazon AU

A 2023 What Hi-Fi? Award winner for good reason, the WiiM Pro Plus is an incredibly talented streamer that support virtually any source you can think of, be it a music or Internet radio service, or music stored on a server thanks to DLNA compatibility. Analogue inputs mean you can stream from your turntable or CD player too, and the sound it serves up is exceptional for the money.

Best speaker deals

Yamaha NS-F160
Yamaha NS-F160: was AU$1,799 now AU$701.62 at Amazon AU

Amazon is selling these Yamaha floorstanders individually, but there's a current offer that lets you buy two for AU$700 and we've confirmed it's legitimate. They're a two-way, three-speaker design that promise "rich bass with natural vocals and dialogue." Also, handily, they come with proper support stands included instead of the more common floor spikes. Note that you'll need to add two to your cart to apply the discount.

KEF Q150
KEF Q150: was AU$1,000 now AU$599 at Amazon AU

The smaller siblings to the five-star KEFs above, the Q150 should be great options for smaller rooms – and budgets. They boast the British company's famous UniQ driver and were designed to excel in modest living spaces. You won't find a better Prime Day deal on speakers at this level thanks to this AU$400 discount.

Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 3
Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 3: was AU$149 now AU$88 at Amazon AU

Still one of the best crowd-pleasing speakers you can find, and now more affordable thanks to this early Prime Day deal. We love its fully waterproof design and incredibly portable nature, plus its very decent 360-degree sound. The JBL Flip 6 is better but costs AU$144.

Ultimate Ears Boom 3
Ultimate Ears Boom 3: was AU$229 now AU$135 at Amazon AU

If you like UE's way of doing Bluetooth speakers but want something bigger than the Wonderboom 3 above, the Boom 3 is a fine choice. It's tough and rugged, and fully waterproof. You can also link up multiple Boom 3s to create a full daisy chain of speakers.

JBL Charge 5
JBL Charge 5: was AU$199.95 now AU$169 at Amazon AU

The combination of rugged, portable build, easy-to-use features and overall punchy, detailed and engaging sound for this money makes the Award-winning Charge 5 still the portable Bluetooth speaker to beat. Highly recommend.

Bose SoundLink Flex
Bose SoundLink Flex: was AU$249 now AU$150 at Amazon AU

If you don't need a tough, rugged exterior, the Bose SoundLink Flex is a good choice. It's still waterproof, mind you, and delivers sound with a clear and detailed midrange. It's also perfectly portable, but it's perhaps best suited to being taken outside to the pool, rather than on a full hiking trip. All colours bar black and green are available for the deal price here.

JBL Clip 4
JBL Clip 4: was AU$89.95 now AU$52 at Amazon AU

Already pretty affordable, and now even more so thanks to this 42% discount on the JBL Clip 4 – which sees it becoming an even more appealing option for anyone looking for an ultra-portable Bluetooth speaker who size of sound belies its small form factor. It's fully waterproof and a built-in carabiner clip means you can attach it to almost anything. Want the newer model? The JBL Clip 5 is down to AU$77 (from AU$89.95).

Best TV and home cinema deals

Sony 42-inch A90K
Sony 42-inch A90K: was AU$1,999 now AU$1,699 at Amazon AU

When we tested the 48-inch version of this Sony OLED TV, we said: "Where the A90K is almost flawless is in its picture quality. We’ve never before tested a TV this size that’s this good." That bodes well for this slightly smaller size, which benefits too from an AU$300 discount for Prime Day.

Nebula Capsule 3 projector
Nebula Capsule 3 projector: was AU$1,399 now AU$799.99 at Amazon AU

Anker's pint-sized Nebula Capsule projectors are a favourite among both reviewers and users. The Capsule 3 is limited in brightness and we found it a bit expensive, but this discount certainly helps the latter. It's very user-friendly and runs Google TV for the OS, meaning there's wide support for streaming platforms via their official apps. This deal knocks a pleasing 43% off the usual price.

Sennheiser Ambeo Soundbar Max
Huge Prime saving!
Sennheiser Ambeo Soundbar Max: was AU$3,999 now AU$2,999 at Amazon AU

A previous What Hi-Fi? Award winner, this Sennheiser soundbar boasts 13 speaker drivers within its rather large body, which it uses to deliver a powerful, articulated sound that fills and envelops a room, all without the need for a wireless subwoofer or rear speakers. It’s a big unit, and it is heavy, but it produces a sound unlike any other soundbar.

Sony Bravia X85L
Sony Bravia X85L: was AU$2,190 now AU$1,499 at Amazon AU

Despite being a mid-range set, the Sony X85L delivers a stunning picture thanks to the inclusion of local dimming zones. These help it hugely when it comes to contrast, and thanks to Sony's picture processing tech, you can pretty much forget about experiencing blooming. A terrific TV now at a slightly more affordable price.

Sony HT-G700
Sony HT-G700: was AU$695 now AU$594 at Amazon AU

When we reviewed the HT-G700, we appreciated its punchy sound, great Atmos support, and impressive build quality. And that was when it cost its original price. Now just under AU$600, this is not just a great soundbar but an excellent deal.

Bose Smart Soundbar 900
Bose Smart Soundbar 900: was AU$1,389 now AU$800 at Amazon AU

Capable of delivering a wide soundstage with crystal clear vocals, there's much the like with the Bose Soundbar 900. It does good – not quite great – Dolby Atmos, but if you're still loyal to conventional 5.1, then it will certainly improve home movie time.

Sony UBP-X700 UHD Blu-ray player
Prime Exclusive!
Sony UBP-X700 UHD Blu-ray player: was AU$399 now AU$295 at Amazon AU

It's not the biggest discount ever, but the Sony UBPX700 was already a formidable 4K Blu-ray player at its original price, so we'll take whatever saving is applied. It might be a few years old now, but it support Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, and we think for the money it's tough to beat. If you've yet to invest in physical 4K discs, this is a perfect gateway into greater detail and sound.

Best phones and tablet deals

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra
Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra: was AU$2,199 now AU$1,887 at Amazon AU

This is one of the best Samsung Galaxy S24 prices we've seen. The flagship phone serves up a typical-for-Samsung bright and punchy picture, along with excellent camera capabilities and a sound packed with clarity and energy.

Apple iPhone 15 Pro (256GB)
Apple iPhone 15 Pro (256GB): was AU$2,049 now AU$1,799 at Amazon AU

We haven't given the 'regular' size iPhone 15 Pro a full review, but we have put the larger Pro Max under the What Hi-Fi? microscope. They share much of the same DNA, save from screen size and camera zoom capability, so you can rest assured the formula that won the Pro Max a 2023 What Hi-Fi? Award, also applies here.

What is Amazon Prime Day?

Prime Day is Amazon's take on Black Friday. It began in 2015 as a celebration of the retail giant's 20th anniversary. While other online retailers get involved in the Black Friday bargain bun fight, Prime Day is generally all about Amazon, though you might see other retailers lowering prices at the same time in order to jump on the sales frenzy bandwagon and stay competitive during that period.

Prime Day is a big sale that encompasses most areas of the Amazon site – as well as audiovisual gear, you'll find discounts on toasters, books, clothes, and pretty much anything that Amazon sells. And that's a lot!

Like with Prime Day, you'll need to be a Prime member to take advantage of the best offers. Not yet a member? Amazon’s free 30-day Prime trial gives you the option to sign up, bag a few bargains during the sale, and cancel your membership without paying a cent. Go you.

Prime Day 2024 dates: when is Prime Day 2 in Australia?

Prime Day has gotten longer and longer over recent years, so it isn't surprising that Prime Day 2024 in July was the longest-ever Prime Day in Australia. It started on Tuesday 16th July at 12:01 a.m. AEST and ran through until 21st July.

Deals from Germany, Japan, the UK and the US were also available to Australian shoppers through the Amazon Global Store, meaning Aussie Prime members could take advantage of many more hours of deals.

The October version of the event – officially 'Prime Big Deal Days' but also known as 'Prime Day 2' – is now a mainstay in the Prime calendar. This year it kicks off on 8th October at 00:01am AEST and runs through to midnight on 13th October.

What Prime Day 2 2024 deals can I expect?

OLED TVs, JBL Bluetooth speakers, Sony wireless earbuds and Bose headphones, Alexa and Echo devices, Apple AirPods... you get the picture. Some of the most popular products in the consumer electronics space are pretty much guaranteed to be on offer at Amazon during Prime Day.

Big-sellers over recent Amazon Prime Day have included the Sonos Beam and Arc soundbars, Sony WH-1000XM5 and older WH-1000XM4 noise-cancelling headphones, Amazon Echo Show smart speakers and Fire TV video streamers, Bose QuietComfort Ultra headphones, LG, Philips and Sony OLED TVs, and plenty more five-star products across the audio and AV space.

Sonos, Sennheiser, Sony and Bose products – particularly headphones – all come up regularly in Prime Day sales, so if you have your eye on something from one of the bigger brands, there's a good chance some money will be lopped off it. For Prime Day 2 we will look out for deals on the LG C4 OLED TV and any lingering 2023 LG OLED TVs, perhaps even a lowest-ever price on Sony's excellent WF-1000XM5 wireless earbuds and WH-1000XM5 headphones, and the best soundbars from the likes of Sonos and Samsung. You never know, perhaps even a rare discount on Apple products such as the iPhone 15, HomePod 2 and original AirPods Max could show.

What about hi-fi? Unfortunately, Prime Day tends to spotlight more mass-market product categories such as TVs, soundbars and Bluetooth speakers for deals, meaning that discounts on hi-fi gear are far and few between. While some other retailers drop their prices to piggyback the Amazon Prime events, Black Friday remains the best time of the year to buy hi-fi at discounted prices due to many specialist hi-fi retailers getting on board the more encompassing sale.

Prime Day 2024 shopping tips

1. Sign up for the free Prime trial
If you're new to Amazon Prime, make sure you take advantage of the 30-day free Prime trial. And remember to cancel if you don't want a monthly bill for AU$9.99 when the trial ends.

2. Google a product before buying
Not every Prime Day 2023 deal is going to be a winner, so make sure you compare prices online before you buy, and, of course, check reviews to make sure the product is worth buying at all! We at What Hi-Fi? work tirelessly to call out the best deals on the consumer electronics categories we cover – our job, after all, is to point customers towards the best products on the market – so if we haven't included one in our deals coverage, there's usually a good reason for it!

3. Big brands can equal big savings
Amazon often slashes the cost of a few big brand items – think Playstation and Xbox accessories, Samsung TVs and tablets, etc – to get the attention of shoppers. Keep an eye out for these 'marquee' deals.

4. Check the Amazon Warehouse
Returned goods end up on sale at the Amazon Warehouse at a decent discount, so there's a chance you could spot an open-box bargain that beats the box-fresh Prime Day price.

5. Stay tuned to whathifi.com
Amazon unleashes thousands of deals around Prime Day, which can make it tricky to find genuine bargains on five-star tech and AV. That's why we'll be publishing an up-to-the-minute list of the very best Prime Day 2023 deals.

How much does Amazon Prime cost in 2024?

First things first: to be eligible for Prime Day discounts, you need Amazon Prime. This is effectively a membership fee that gives you free standard international delivery on select orders over AU$49 or expedited delivery (in select areas) on eligible items bought from Amazon, as well as the Prime Video and Amazon Music streaming services (but not Amazon Music Unlimited – that costs extra), free ebooks, and the ability to share some of these benefits with others in your household.

Amazon Prime costs AU$9.99 a month, or AU$79 if you pay yearly (saving you AU$40 compared to paying monthly). Changed your mind? You can cancel your Prime membership on the Manage Prime Membership page. And if you haven't placed a Prime-eligible order or used any of your Prime benefits within your membership, you'll be refunded in full.

There's an Amazon Prime free trial, too. Sign up, select 'Start my free trial', and you'll have access to Prime for 30 days with nothing to pay. That means you can sign up, take advantage of the deals, and then cancel your trial before the 30 days ends and not be charged your second month's fee for Prime. Not that we would condone such behaviour, of course!

To be eligible for the trial, you can't have subscribed to Prime in the last 12 months.

This really shouldn't be mysterious: Amazon Prime Days are some of the biggest shopping days there are. When they come around, folks look for whatever information they can find on what deals to expect. When everyone starts searching for specific terms, publishers make sure they have content covering those terms.

If you go to literally any site that covers consumer electronics, they're covering Amazon Prime Day.
