Meet the team
Joe is Content Director for Future’s Product Testing and What Hi-Fi?, and was previously the Global Editor-in-Chief of What Hi-Fi?. He has worked on What Hi-Fi? across print and online for almost 20 years, writing news, reviews and features. He has covered product launch events all over the world, from Apple to Technics, Sony and Samsung; reported from CES, the Bristol Show and Munich High End for many years; and provided comment for sites such as the BBC and the Guardian. In his spare time, he enjoys playing records and cycling (not at the same time).
Alastair took the captain's chair at What Hi-Fi? in 2022. He's spent the majority of his career as a tech journalist/professional shiny things chaser, having made the move from politics and business journalism to it all the way back in the early noughties. A die hard b-movie and prog rock fan he's always on the hunt for a new OLED TV, or fancy pair of speakers to try out.
Jonathan Evans is the editor of What Hi-Fi? magazine, and has been with the title for 18 years or so. He has been a journalist for more than three decades now, working on a variety of technology and motoring titles, including Stuff, Autocar and Jaguar. With his background in sub-editing and magazine production, he likes nothing more than a discussion on the finer points of grammar. And golf.
Andy is Deputy Editor of What Hi-Fi? and a consumer electronics journalist with nearly 20 years of experience writing news, reviews and features. Over the years he's also contributed to a number of other outlets, including The Sunday Times, the BBC, Stuff, and BA High Life Magazine. Premium wireless earbuds are his passion but he's also keen on car tech and in-car audio systems and can often be found cruising the countryside testing the latest set-ups. In his spare time Andy is a keen golfer and gamer.
Ketan Bharadia is the Technical Editor of What Hi-Fi? He's been been reviewing hi-fi, TV and home cinema equipment for over two decades, and over that time has covered thousands of products. Ketan works across the What Hi-Fi? brand including the website and magazine. His background is based in electronic and mechanical engineering.
Becky is the managing editor of What Hi-Fi? and, since her recent move to Melbourne, also the editor of Australian Hi-Fi magazine. During her nine years in the hi-fi industry, she has been fortunate enough to travel the world to report on the biggest and most exciting brands in hi-fi and consumer tech (and has had the jetlag and hangovers to remember them by). In her spare time, Becky can often be found running, watching Liverpool FC and horror movies, and hunting for gluten-free cake.
Kashfia is the Hi-Fi and Audio Editor of What Hi-Fi? and first joined the brand 13 years ago. During her time in the consumer tech industry, she has reviewed hundreds of products (including speakers, amplifiers, turntables and headphones), been to countless trade shows across the world and fallen in love with hi-fi kit much bigger than her. In her spare time, Kash can be found tending to an ever-growing houseplant collection and shooing her cat Jolene away from spinning records.
Tom Parsons has been writing about TV, AV and hi-fi products (not to mention plenty of other 'gadgets' and even cars) for over 15 years. He began his career as What Hi-Fi?'s Staff Writer and is now the TV and AV Editor. In between, he worked as Reviews Editor and then Deputy Editor at Stuff, and over the years has had his work featured in publications such as T3, The Telegraph and Louder. He's also appeared on BBC News, BBC World Service, BBC Radio 4 and Sky Swipe. Outside of work Tom is a father, runner and gamer.
Lewis Empson is a senior staff writer at What Hi-Fi? with a passion for all things AV. He studied journalism, media and culture at university until 2021, and worked on a wide variety of national newspapers before joining the team in 2022. He enjoys regular cinema trips, travelling, and gaming in his spare time.
Harry McKerrell is a senior staff writer at What Hi-Fi?. He studied law and history at university before working as a freelance journalist covering TV and gaming for numerous platforms both online and in print. When not at work he can be found playing hockey, practising the piano or forcing himself to go long-distance running.
Robyn Quick is a staff writer at What Hi Fi?. They graduated in 2022 with a master's degree in magazine journalism from Cardiff University. Since then, Robyn has written about TV, movies and board games for a variety of publications. Outside of work, they can be found playing chess and learning muay thai.

We have state-of-the-art testing facilities where our experienced reviewers put more kit through its paces than any other brand. We can, and do, handle anything from the smallest portable speaker to the largest home cinema system. We pride ourselves on having a dedicated team of in-house reviewers delivering all of our reviews, all working in the same acoustically-treated listening rooms.

The products we cover, test and place in our buying guides are chosen by nobody but our experienced team of reviewers and Editors. The content of our editorial articles is entirely independent and no ratings or recommendations have been paid for. Our ratings and verdicts are reached in our dedicated suite of test rooms and are always discussed and agreed upon by at least two members of the review team.
Our editorial independence is backed by the weight of one of the world's largest technology publishers, Future PLC, which means we can give our honest opinion of a product or technology, without compromise.
We sometimes go on press trips and attend events to see products, in order to bring you instant coverage. It never affects our judgement or the way we write about a product, but it can sometimes be the only way we are able to bring you timely coverage of a new product, device or service.
For our reviews, we predominantly use a company's loan programme. Again, we do not pull any punches in our reviews and the readers are always at the forefront of our minds when testing - we only give star ratings to products that are representative of what you'll be able to buy and this is often the only way to secure products in a timely manner so you can have our unbiased verdict and make an informed buying decision.
We always return products at the request of the brand or at the end of the agreed loan period.

Pre-moderation: When dealing with a large volume of comments it’s impossible to handle them in real time.
