Qatar Grand Prix: preview

Nobody’s complaining about the Sprint format now, are they? With an extra race on the table and, therefore, additional points to fight for, the Qatar Grand Prix should be a nice pick-me-up in the aftermath of Max Verstappen’s championship-sealing drive in Las Vegas.

McLaren have a chance to bite back immediately by clinching the constructors’ title – for the first time since 1998 – though the standings are so tight right now that Ferrari and Red Bull are still in a position to punish any slip-ups from Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri in Lusail.

Ferrari have closed the gap to McLaren to only 24 points, while Red Bull are there or thereabouts too, 29 points behind Ferrari.

This is a circuit at which Verstappen, Norris, Piastri and Charles Leclerc all performed strongly 12 months ago. However, considering the pace they showed last weekend, Mercedes could yet have a major say on where the title ends up.
