F1 2024 season preview
Can Lando Norris hang on in there? With only three GPs and one last Sprint to go, a sensational turnaround is still mathematically possible, but only just. Max Verstappen currently holds a 62-point lead over his rival, and there'll be a maximum haul of 60 points on the table after this weekend's Las Vegas GP.
Which is a roundabout way of saying that if Norris doesn't outscore Verstappen by three points or more in Vegas, that's it – the Dutchman will have his fourth consecutive drivers' title in the bag.
As captivating as the title battle has been, the Brazilian GP laid Norris' shortcomings bare. Having fluked pole, he yet again lost the lead right at the start, and made numerous errors that dropped him all the way back to 6th. Verstappen, by contrast, clocked in one of the great wet-weather drives to win from 17th.
It was a race that will live long in the memory, but McLaren mustn't allow it to derail their constructors' title bid. They're in line to win it for the first time since 1998, but with Ferrari 36 points behind and Red Bull 49 back – albeit hampered by the lame duck that is Sergio Perez – it's not done yet.
