Featuring a characteristic B&O styling job, by Steffen Schmelling, the player stands just over 9cm tall, is 12.2mm thick, and weighs 65g. The display is a 4.6cm TFT LCD, and the player supports MP3, WMA and OGG file formats.

iTunes TV: is it worth the money?

I've just downloaded the latest version of iTunes (7.4.1) in anticipation of buying a new iPod, and discovered you can (finally) buy full-length TV shows on the UK iTunes store, writes Andy Clough.

You probably knew this already, but it had passed me by in all the excitement of the recent iPhone/iPod launches.

There isn't a massive choice of TV series on offer (around 30), but at least it's an improvement on the few Pixar shorts we had before.

I'm facing a dilemma, writes Andy Clough. Like many of my colleagues here in the office, I've been saving up for an iPhone for Christmas. Ever since I first clapped eyes on it, I knew I had to have one.

But now Apple has unleashed the iPod touch, available in the UK from Sept 28 (that's only 17 days away!), and I'm tempted to buy that instead, as I'm just too impatient to wait for the iPhone.

The world's not exactly short of iPod docks, and you might have thought high-end AV specialist Meridian would leave the competitive portable dock market to others. But in an attempt to broaden its appeal, the company has just unveiled the $390 iRIS.

Of course, this being Meridian, there's an interesting technical twist involved. This is no ordinary iDock. Oh no. It upscales low-res video from iTunes and other sources to 1080p, using advanced Qdeo processing from Marvell Semiconductors, and feeds the video signal to your screen via HDMI or analogue component connections.

Following the launch of an entire new series of iPods yesterday, Apple has unexpectedly cut the price of the iPhone in the US. It's slashing the price of the 8GB iPhone by $200 to $399.

According to a report in today's New York Times, Apple founder Steve Jobs said he was confident that Apple would hit its publicly declared target of selling one million iPhones by the end of this month (it went on sale in the States on June 29).

Sony Nw ASony's opening up its new Network Walkman players, abandoning its old reliance on ATRAC compression and the much-disliked proprietary Connect software in favour of Windows Media Audio (WMA) and drag-and-drop copying from computer to player.

The new machines can handle secure WMA, as well as AAC and MP3 audio formats, and also handle JPEG picture files, and MPEG-4 and H.264/AVC video.
