Wii
Apologies for another BBC iPlayer story, but we thought you might like to know that Nintendo has announced that from today Wii users can stream their favourite BBC programmes to their TVs via the Wii console.

Following on from the news that iPlayer now works on the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch, this is bound to make the BBC TV web service even more popular.

Erik Huggers, the BBC's group controller for future media and technology (great job title, btw), made the announcement today at the annual MipTV-Milia conference in Cannes.

"Working with Nintendo marks another exciting milestone for the BBC iPlayer. It underlines our commitment to reaching new audiences by making BBC iPlayer available on as many platforms as possible," says Huggers.

Now the iPlayer for Wii service is live, a message will be sent to all Wii consoles in the UK currently connected to the internet to notify owners of the availability of the iPlayer service.

Exisiting Wii owners can access the BBC iPlayer via the Internet Channel on the Wii main menu. New users may be required to download the Wii Internet Channel.

Really, really want a PS3 compatible version soon. The page loads fine, just can't click on the button to stream. That really would make the iplayer worthwhile.

Checked this out last night and I must say that the framerate is so poor it's almost unwatchable.  This is probably down to the Wii's limited browser capabilities, but still - not very well deployed.  Stick to your PC.
