NEWS: QED targets gamers with PS3 HDMI cables

Qed1
Sorry to disappoint all you Xbox 360 owners out there, but Sony's PS3 is proving popular as an affordable Blu-ray player. So cable company QED has unleashed a range of dedicated HDMI cables for the PS3.

The new QED Live HDMI cable is fully compliant with the latest HDMI 1.3 specification and can handle 1080p Full HD images.

QED claims the cable uses 99.9% pure oxygen-free copper conductors throughout and has high levels of screening, plus a gold Mylar wrap to keep interference to a minimum.

It's available in four lengths: 1m (£45), 2m (£50), 3m (£55) and 5m (£65).

QED cables are distributed in the UK by Armour Home Electronics.

Are these any different to the regular purple QED cable?

Andy Clough March 18, 2008 14:55

Allegedly so.

andewjames March 18, 2008 16:34

Total rip off... 1m (£45) for a meter, i personally would look at the cables www.ukhdmi.com. You can buy 10 cables for £45.

Just my two cents

EvertonMonkey March 18, 2008 17:26

I would agree with AndrewJames, I bought 4 cables from ukhdmi and they are great !

Andrew Everard March 18, 2008 18:12

You know, andewjames, from your postings to date, anyone would think you were on commission from that cable e-tailer...

Surely not?

Clare Newsome March 18, 2008 18:25

Nah, it must be a pure coincidence/local business loyalty that he hails from the same town.

Andrew Everard March 18, 2008 18:44

Well at least it's convenient that his IP address locates him in Oxford, same as the company he seems to praise so much. Must make the deliveries really fast when he orders from them...

Andrew Everard March 18, 2008 19:02

Or maybe they're not always so fast - this response from the company to someone on another forum complaining about a lost order:

"I am sorry andrew is looking into the matter, hmm we gave your goods to DHL and we have a proof of dispatch..."

'andrew' = andewjames? Nah, couldn't be...

After all, what reputable company would go on a website pretending to be a consumer and slanging off rival manufacturers?

Bips March 18, 2008 19:22

i use qed hdmi cables and my system sounds superb..you spend a fortune on a system then connect it with rubbish hdmi cables..what is the point.

My onkyo sr605 and kef 3005se truly deserve the qed cables.

enough said.

mring March 18, 2008 20:21

u can bash the PS3 all u want but adding blu-ray was an extremely smart move on sony's part.

Nick From Philly March 18, 2008 21:35

Great bit of detective work Andrew.  Damn funny stuff.

If you do a similar check of my posts you'll see I'm pretty much a Sony Whore but even I have to admit the new Sony cables are disappointing and that QED standards are second to none.

but Juzzie Wuzzie brings up a good question what is the difference between the normal QED purple and the PS3 version?

skr1 March 18, 2008 22:08

Is the qed cable part of the sr range? If so (nick) the quality is of a high grade and clearly better than the purple range .

From the picture see above ! it looks like the sr range.

tractorboy March 18, 2008 22:20

What's all this? Why is everyone discussing the cable rather than ranting about how WHFSV are clearly a bunch of Sony fanboys? Things aren't what they used to be. I remember when it was all fields as far as the eye... etc.

skr1 March 18, 2008 22:43

No sony Tans on me, The cable though plays an important part on performance and that is true for all our  expensive ! much loved equipment.

professorhat March 19, 2008 03:28

I never understood the cable specific for a certain console thing that companies do. Okay, some consoles need proprietary cables fair enough, but an HDMI cable specific for the PS3? I seem to remember seeing a PS3 Ethernet cable once... come on, that's just taking the...!

Ginder March 20, 2008 19:15

Why is the PS3 still using the Playstation brand? Obviously its given up on the gaming side of things and has become a blu ray player that happens to play below average games lol

andewjames March 20, 2008 19:17

Thanks for the slaughter...

Disclaimer: i have nothing to do with ukhdmi

I just like their goods.. lets get back to the main question... £45.00 for a 1m Hdmi NO... come on?

Andrew Everard March 21, 2008 08:42

OK if you say so - just seemed far too coincidental...

madeinstein April 1, 2008 00:11

So guys purly by looking at the price I would assume that this cable "Chord Company 1.3 Silver Plus" would still be your recommendation? I need to buy few cables and one of them will be going to PS3.

Nimze May 16, 2008 03:16

what exactly is preventing this cable from being used on the xbox 360 ? afterall, it is also another games console with similar graphics just doesn't have the blu-ray
