American firm Amimon has made a breakthrough in the drive towards wireless HDMI connectivity, with the announcement yesterday that its Wireless High-Definition Interface (WHDI) technology has been approved for use with the HDCP specification.

NEWS: Orange signs online movie deal with MGM

French telecom giant Orange has struck a deal with Hollywood studio MGM to make its films available online for customers to download to their PCs or a special set-top box.

The 24/24 video-on-demand service will offer films form as little as €1, and customers can keep them for up to 24 hours. The service enables you to watch the film as many times as you like, and even to pause, rewind and fast-forward it.

Sky has launched a new version of Sky Anytime on PC. The on-demand service now offers documentary programmes as a new genre for viewers to download, and has also been made easier to use with enhanced functionality.

The range of content available on the service has expanded to include programming from third party channels for the first time including National Geographic Channel; Nat Geo Wild; The History Channel; The Biography Channel and Crime & Investigation Network.

In addition, Sky Real Lives will also join the Sky channel portfolio now comprising Sky One, Sky Sports, Sky Movies and Sky Arts.

NEWS: Virgin Media slashes the price of its V+ high-definition TV box for Christmas

Virgin Media is slashing the installation cost of its V+ set-top box from £150 to £75. Anyone who signs up for Virgin Media's cable TV service between now and December 31st will get the box installed at half price.

The V+ box is a personal video recorder (PVR) with a 160GB hard drive that enable users to record up to 80 hours of standard-definition TV. It has three tuners, so you can record two programmes simultaneously while watching a third.

And if you have an HD-ready TV, the box allows you to view the BBC's trial HD channel plus a selection of free and pay-per-view high-definition material, including popular TV series from C4 and a selection of movies (£3.99 each).
