NEWS: Flatter records hot off the press - UPDATED

Oct 22, 2007

Furutech Dfv-1-B1No, you haven't strayed onto the website of Corby Trouser Press Enthusiast magazine - this new device from Japanese company Furutech is the DFV-1 electric record flattener, designed to solve the problems caused by warped LPs.

The same company has also brought us a record demagnetiser – the subject of some head-scratching at the 2006 High End Show among those of us who never knew records could get magnetised – and a fan-assisted antistatic gun.

Furutech tells us that 'Improved film heating technology optimizes the entire heating and cooling cycle for a perfectly flat LP that your cartridge – and you – will love!'

Apparent you just 'unlock and open the DFV-1, place the LP on the spindle, close and tap a single button! An LCD keeps you informed of progress with a tone sounding when done.' The unit operates at a maximum temperature of 65C.

And though the DFV-1 (Dead Flat Vinyl?) unit costs $1480, and as far as we can see isn't distributed in the UK, we couldn't resist bringing it to you. Blame it on our warped sense of humour...

UPDATE: The DFV-1 is now available in the UK via Metropolis Music, who also handle the rest of the Furutech range. It costs £990.
