the sound for my system

I am aiming for a Sony kdl40w2000 tv, a sky hd box, a ps3 and an upscaling dvd player - probably denon 1930.

Therefore I am left with what to choose for sound i.e. amp/receiver, sub and speakers

I have thought about an all in one cinema in a box jobbie - but not sure how/if my ps3 and sky hd box would connect with it - if I buy an all in one does that mean I only get to watch dvds in 5.1?

I am however leaning towards a seperate sub and speakers solution. I have decided that the Sony STRDA1200ES is my price point for an amp/receiver therefore my speakers/sub package would be around £800.

all help and suggestions greatly appreciated.

sounds like thr right plan - i would go with Aegeo T acoustic energy system, it RRP at £800, won product of year for products up to £1000 on smaller systems but you can get it on the net now for £550, a bargin!!

Re: the sound for my system

Both the PS3 and the Sky HD box will connect directly to the Sony using conventional digital cables - optical, as far as I can recall.

However, if you were to buy the £400 Onkyo TX-SR605 instead, you'd be able to feed the PS3's audio output into the receiver using the same HDMI cable as is used for the picture, and run both devices into the receiver using HDMI, then a single cable out to the TV. You'll still need the optical feed for Sky surround audio, though...

Re: the sound for my system

A website is offering the tv I want (Sony kdl40w2000) with a Sony DAV-DZ830 DVD Home Cinema System for £1354.99.

Is the DAV-DZ830 any good? i.e. will it mean I dont have to buy an upscaling dvd player?

Also could I connect my sky and ps3 to the DAV-DZ830? or will I only get 5.1 from watching dvds?

 Thanks

Yes, the DAV-DZ830 has built-in upscaling, to 1080i.

But although it has two digital inputs, one's optical and the other's electrical, so given that both the PS3 and Sky HD have optical digital outputs, you're not going to be able to use them both unless you swap cables each time, or invest in one of these,

which is a three-in-one-out optical switcher, or one of these,

which is an optical to electrical digital converter you could use between one of the two units and the electrical digital input on the Sony system.

Re: the sound for my system

the thing is my tv , my ps3 and sky hd are all for my bedroom so perhaps realistically a cinema in a box is my only solution. however i want it to be more than just a token gesture towards surround sound so can anyone recommend one. thanks
