Ah proper golf. I play a bit of "pitch and putt", basically mini golf. Longest hole is about 100 yards, 18 holes all par 3.
I would love to have proper lessons and get into real golf, but the time and cost involved is too much for me. So I just stick to pitch and putt. An old friend from work gave me his old set of clubs for free a few years ago. As he played real golf we used to go for a round after work in the summer and he would give me a few tips. It's amazing what a few pointers can do for you.
I wish I could hit 200 yards, best I have done is about 120 yards with a 9 iron. At the back of the pitch and putt course I go to theres a big field with a mini lake in the middle. So at the end of last summer I decided to use up all my old golf balls and tried to use the 3 wood for the 1st time. Well I tried about 40 times and I couldn't get the ball more than about 30 yards. I either topped the ball or it went pretty far but with a massive slice. I couldn't get the hang of swinging that big club, especially as I normally use a pitching wedge for pitch and putt.
It's amazing how hard it is to hit a golf ball long and straight. Hell even straight is hard enough. Tiger woods makes it look very easy.
You can't beat a round of golf in the summer. Amazing game and totally adictive.
When there's a few of us playing we play for a beer. The loser has to buy everyone a drink on the 19th, or failing that we go for closet to the flag on the 18th. Golf and a free beer is hard to beat.
