The band who have played on the most hits in the history of pop music are a band called "The Funkbrothers".They were Motown's in-house band of crack studio musicans but their names remain largely unknown even today as Motown never gave them any credit on the albums and they were never mentioned in interviews by the "stars".They played the backing tracks on all the Motown songs.The figures show that they played on more hits than Elvis,The Beatles,The Rolling Stones and The Beach Boys combined...

whist its true that they never wrote the words to the songs they did write all the music with all the "hooks" to the tune,like for instance the famous guitar intro on "My Girl" by the Temptations,that was made up at the session by the Funkbrothers guitarist Robert White.They were given the songs as a few bare bone chords on a sheet and the rest was left up to them.

Whenever I feel bad, had a bad day or anything, I put on an Elvis record and soon will feel perfectly well again.
Elvis' vocal talent is incredible- pure, direct, emotionally communicative. It's a voice alive.
I feel almost sorry for anyone not recognizing this brilliance- and can only assume they either have never heard him through a quality hifi (when thinking he sounds bland, boring) or have a musical taste totally at odds with rock 'n roll.

John, those teenagers and/or mentally challenged monkeys you talked to really need to go out and discover the world.

How?


IMO - some of the material he came out with was ahead of its' time - his vocal could be rocky, soft, romantic, hard - he carried a tune but stamped his style all over it. He inspired some of the most influential artists of our time and was the first to take a mix of musical styles (black, gospel, blues) and create something completely new.

As an aside, I nearly fell over when I heard the original "A Little Less Conversation" - I always thought that guitar sound was sampled on the JXL remix. But no.....oh yes, he had a great backing band too. A bunch of guys that just enjoyed playing music, but totally changed the musical and popular culture landscape almost overnight. A rare thing indeed.

Space isn't remote at all. It's only an hour's drive away if your car could go straight upwards

always been a big who fan from way back in my youth.....love all their stuff from the r and b early days to the more rock style of the later days....never really like the stones though...dont know why i kinda think i ought to like them

The first record I bought was an Elvis album - I subsequently became a huge fan until I discovered Motorhead and regretfully sold the most valuable chunk of my Elvis collection (all vinyl) Even though now I listen to mostly punk/indie/metal music I still love Elvis - I can't think of another solo artist with a better voice, so full of effortless power and emotion. If there was any justice in the world all the Elvis impersonators would be dead and the king would be alive....

i know that my mother (when much younger) brought 2 copies of every elvis, beatles and others records she could, one to play one to keep....she had a ton of pristine singles and LPs .... when she married my dad and they went off round the world she left them with her mum ...

guess what granny did when a charity shop came calling for any old LPs not wanted....yep the lots was donated away......

Drummerdave - but Motorhead's often just fast Elvis!! I defy anyone to say Elvis couldn't have done a version of "Going To Brazil"....!
