Next Ipod models

Have started to see rumours on the old interweb that Apple will once again be upgrading their ipod ranges. Now i know that apple traditionally plays its cards close to its heart about such things (3G Iphone seems to be the exception) but seeing as i'm planning to buy an ipod classic as a present in late august I'd prefer not to have it obsoleted in a matter of days)

 Any information out there?

First couple of weeks in September is the traditional Ipod upgrade time - but, as ever, nothing official from Apple

See http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/. Advice is not to buy now... but given Steve Jobs poor health condition... and the problems with the iPhone launch in the rest of the world, don't know whether Apple will be on track to launch a new iPod anytime soon. My guess is that it will be merely some tweaking and not anything revolutionary. I mean how much better can the iTouch become besides adding in more memory and features?

Lot of chatter elsewhere (leading to big rise in Apple shares) that it'll be a tablet computer - halfway house between a Touch/iPhone and a MacBook. But then anyone who remembers the farce that was the Apple Newton....

Since you mentioned the "Classic" if apple updates that will probably be usual incremental hard-drive size upgrade and or price drop/colours. Has it got to be a Classic?

The ipod would be replacing an Iriver H120 so I don't want to reduce the space available,

Was considering the classic due to its capacity, especially as I want to rip my CD's at a nice high bitrate.

Re: Next Ipod models

There is something planned for September for definite. Couldn't tell you what though. My advice would be to hold fire for a couple of weeks.

Although, it could be a laptop or another core Apple product
