entertainment unit furniture, closed doors and excessive heat

I have a wooden entertainment unit which I use to keep my stereo amp and CD player in. As I have a young daughter it is handy to be able to close the doors to keep wee hands from expensive equipment. However the amp and cd player get very hot when inside with the doors closed. I was wondering (a) will this diminish sound quality, and (b) if it does, does anyone have any ideas how to keep grubby hands away, keep the equipment cool and still have an aesthetically pleasing solution???

Any thoughts would be appreciated!!

Re: entertainment unit furniture, closed doors and excessive heat

I dunno if it has an effect on sound quality, but component life may be affected.

Is there any way to drill an air vent into the rear panel of the unit, near the top? This at least would give a path for the hot air to escape.
