Is the RSS feed solely for the front page news, or this there one for the forums?

Adding this to you feed reader should work. If you add it to the Bookmarks Toolbar in Firefox like I have you get the latest posts in a drop down menu.
I can view RSS feeds of new posts on the forum from my Squeezebox Duet remote now.
