Re: 10 artists you couldn't bear to lose...

It is indeed strange how human beings can have such differing tastes. I for one, wouldn't listen to Elvis if it was the only CD I owned, nor Buddy Holly et al. R&R just leaves me completely cold. Interesting to see a couple of people liking Marillion. I used to listen to them when I was a teenager and actually I may just go out and purchase to see if I'll still enjoy them now, I would imagine I will.

My 10 are:

Stone Roses
Groove Armada
Everything But The Girl
Jack Johnson
Talk Talk
The Beautiful South
Fleetwood Mac
George Michael
Leftfield
Massive Attack

Phew!

Arcam CD192/A85/P85/T61/DV79 biamped into Dali Ikon 6 speakers in the lounge and ProAc Tablette Reference 8 Signatures in the kitchen. Merlin and RA Mains cables, QED speaker cable and IXOS/Crystal Cable/vdh interconnects.

Indeed.
And I have only just discovered Talk Talk... Not the New romantic stuff, but Spirit of Eden, Laughing Stock, and in fact just bought the Mark Hollis album too. They fit in really well with my passion for post-rock.
As for the rest...
Not keen on EBTG, jack Johnson, TBS. Detest George Michael. Not keen on Fleetwood Mac, but I like the other stuff.

- Madlib

- Thievery Corporation

- Incubus

- The Roots

- The The

- Future Sound Of London

Just a quick list: but there are so many, is so much more...

You are quoting the wrong person. Although I really cant stand George Michael, calling him untalented is a little harsh. He is very good at what he does, wether you or I like him or not.

Elvis... Hmm Dont tell Thaiman, but I'm not keen either....you know what I'm sayin?

I don't particularly like George Michael (he has made a couple of excellent albums) but how can you call him talentless?? He has a very good voice and among plenty of others, he has written Careless Whisper, A Different Corner, Jesus To A Child......

Don't think he has a particularly good or strong voice - each to their own as I said. Was going to go on about commercial pop vs undergound music but then noticed your list. I might be on the wrong forum.

Re: 10 artists you couldn't bear to lose...

Ooh, another list I haven't done yet....Though it oddly feels as if I have.

Here's my current 10, in no particular order:

Elvis Presley

Elvis Costello

Frank Sinatra

Simon & Garfunkel (including Paul Simon solo stuff)

The Beatles (inc solo ventures. Well, maybe apart from Ringo).

Dusty Springfield

Marvin Gaye

Smokey Robinson (as a songwriter as well as performer - he penned more Motown classic than you'd think)

Johnny Cash

...and leaving the most contraversial to last...

Adam Ant.
