Saw Wall E a couple of night ago, the first 30-40 minutes are excellent , I think the story will be lost on younger kids even though they will love Wall E  and Eva.

Rcently watched Pans Labyrinth on DVD ,somehow never got round to watching it, one of the best films I have seen over the past couple of years.

Dark Knight.

hmmm, not tempted by a trip back to narnia or angelina jolie :-)

I hated almost every self-satisfied moment of the first Narnia film (which I knew I would - only watched to be a good Auntie), so have no plans to watch the second.

And Wanted looks like a load of enjoyable nonsense that'll play far better on my big screen at home with a few beers in a couple of months' time! (As opposed to with an over-iced, over-priced soft drink and a cinema of idiots talking through it).

And yes, I am in a bad mood.Wink

You need to find yourself a good local cinema Clare. An oldy world one, rather than one of these 10 screen rip offs.

Try one of the 'Screens' ie 'screen on the green' in islington, or the one in Baker Street, or perhaps the Electric in Notting Hill, where you can get a double leather sofa and take wine in with you. Or even the Rio in Dalston, rough area but a nice cinema and plenty of kebabs available from the surrounding shops afterwards given it's like little Istanbul...

They don't have the same choice in pick n mix though but hey you can't have everything!

Could be true, but remember that by buying the stuff you're actively supporting what you say you hate most. That's market economy for you!

Re: what film next

I've just come home after seeing Wall-e, and I have to say it's quite different from what I expected it to be. For me, this was the first Pixar production that was definitely for kids only.
The ten years olds had a grand time, so I'm happy for them....but to be honest, apart from a few brilliant touches, it could have been produced by dreamworks (shudder!).

The characters felt like puppets being controlled. It felt like they were being steered into the direction the director wanted; sometimes this showed through unnatural dialogue, sometimes through very predictable turns in the script.

That's it. It felt predictable- something I couldn't accuse hardly any previously released pixar movie of. Incredibles was super, ratatouille was grand, but Wall-e I'm sad to say, is not a classic.

Re: what film next

Next on the bigscreen for me will be  the new Shane Meadows film, Somers Town, which I'm particularly keen to see as it's pretty much my neck of the woods. After that it'll be The Dark Knight, perhaps at the IMAX if I can convince the boss that its worth the extra few tube stops for a dizzy den experience.

Next on the small screen will be Son of Rambow and Persepolis. I'm refreshing my memory of both prior to reviewing them on The Leisure Lab.

Re: what film next

Over the last couple of nights I've watched...

'In Bruges', Vantage Point' & '10,000 B.C'.

Of the 3, In Bruges was my fave, but the others weren't bad either. (Yes, I was expecting 10,000 B.C to blow big time, but it wasn't as bad as I'd been led to believe.)

If the phantom menace is anything to go by then it'll surely disappoint. I'm going to give it a miss.

Not bad. It jumps around to 4/5 different people to see their P.O.V of an event. It would be frustrating as I'd start to get hooked by a particular piece, just for it to go back in time and pick up with a different character. Also, it's not quite as clever as it thinks it is, but a worthy watch none-the-less.

Re: what film next

I watched 'Ratatouille' the other night. Really enjoyed it. Also watched 'Dragon Wars' which wasn't awful, but it wasn't good. Quality of both the acting and the picture came across more like an episode of some program rather than a film.

Also watched 'In The Name Of The King'...........Rubbish......... I think the editor was on something.
