This is what I did -- as suggested by some of the folks here last year. I run it off my iBook G4 using Airport Express, plugged into my lovely ADM9s.

I had to get an extra Airport Express to plug into the speakers. It "talks"

JohnDuncan:
Yep - all mine's on the mac in the kitchen, but if it's on your laptop then off you go. Fairly sure it has an optical out (through the headphone socket) too, so you can add a DAC and have an audiophile setup for peanuts (assuming amp and speakers are such).

I like the idea of this new fangled Airport Express thingy.

How would it connect to my Pioneer VSX-LX70?

Either through a 3.5mm-jack-to-2-phono lead, or by using a digital cable (the headphone jack is also a digital out) to a digital in on the Pioneer.

Have two AEs (lounge (n version) and kitchen (g) version) and highly recommend. Best piece of kit next to my AE radio. Now, if only the iPod touch could wirelessly send music to it, that WOULD be fantastic.

Re: AE

Well since I assume that the music on your iPod touch is also on your PC or Mac, it can.

Re: Isn't Airport Express great?

You can go one better if you want.

I have just installed an Apple Time Capsule which is effectively an Airport Extreme 11n wifi/cablemodem/repeater combined with a 500 Gb storage - great value if you need storage and a wifi hub. My Mac and Airport Express, plus 3 x notebooks, use this as their hub.

So far I have connected the Air Express to my stereo in the lounge room and used the analogue feed plugged into my amp - sounds great when straight from CD being played on the MAC or a lossless file.

Next step is to buy a DAC and use the digital feed from the Express as I have heard that is a big step up in sound. Biggest problem is working which one to buy.

Next step is to get another express and use it to drive a pair of active speakers in the kitchen/sunroom.

I plan to scan my CD's using EAC (Exact Copy) and then store as lossless files in iTunes on the Time Capsule.

Cheers

For me, close, but no cigar. I want to be able to stream from an iTouch WITHOUT my computer being on. I am a demanding lad.

OK, now done an A/B with lossless, and in comparison to the CD player, though admittedly with a very cheap generic lead on the AE......it's like listening through a sock.

Think a DAC beckons!

Doh! I knew I was doing something wrong.

Re: AE

Any luck with the DAC or do you have to buy one? Read lots of interesting forums and reviews about DAC's ranging from GBP100 through to many 000's. Even a string on using a Cambridge 740 or 840 CDP.

Seem to be the cheaper ones but still get good writeups.
