Hi everyone,after 12 months or more of reading the forum i was seduced by the dark side!Thanks to Clare,Kevin & the What hifi team & regulars Professorhat & D J Krime to name just a few.Without everyones advice i may not have parted with my 8 year old 28 inch CRT Philips widescreen,which through a sky+ box produced a picture to die for.

After months of worry that a panny 37 inch plasma would be to big for my room,it turned out to be just grand.I sit 9 feet away and using a SD sky+ box and upscaling DVD player the picture is fantastic.It turnned out all the good things said about the panny were true!!!! (i had faith in you guys all along)But now i have a new problem.My 37 inch panny as developed a fault and is going to be changed.(widescreen picture fault)The problem is do i pay the differance and get the 42 inch panny.Like i said i sit 9 feet away and cannot move the seat back anymore.The picture is great on the 37 inch but will i notice picture break up on the 42 inch,am i pushing the boat out just a bit to much.I will be watching SD on a sky+ box and the odd DVD,no sky HD just yet,that would finish the wife off.She thinks am mad about changing to a 42 inch.So guys its over to you HELP needed please.Thanks

What size is right for you depends upon your own eyes and the actual TV. I have the 37PX80 and I sit closer than 9ft. I would happily get the 42" at this distance.

But check it out in the shops with your own eyes. And then make your decision.

I have the 37 inch version and at a viewing distance of about 9 feet have come to the conclusion that it is the right size for standard definition viewing, but on a good HD broadcast I sometimes wish it was 42inch (and 1080 full HD).

Would be interested in more details about your widescreen fault.

Well after a bit of biting my nails i decided to pay the extra £80 up from £569 to £649 and have tha 42 inch for the replacement TV.I bought the tv from JL with the free 5 yr guarantee.The fault with the tv was a problem when the screen was in widescreen mode.It looked like it thought it was in AUTO mode because the picture kept stretching in and out.This would happen on sky films broadcast in WS with no ad breaks,it made no difference if the Picture Overscan was on or off.Thing is if it hadn't gone wrong i would not have changed it.So the 42 inch panny turns up this week and i will let you know what i think of it,fingers crossed.My wife says us blokes are never happy and always want that little bit more,do you think shes right lads (sorry ladies as well)

how are you getting on with the 42" panny at a viewing distance of 9ft?  does the piccy seem any less clear than on the 37"?
