Isn't Airport Express great?

Just picked one up for the hell of it this afternoon, and currently feeding the main system with Apple Lossless - sounds fabulous.........

How does it compare to a dedicated cd player?

Im still toying with the idea of getting one as there so cheap.

Have you experienced any dropout with the connection at all John?

Re: Isn't Airport Express great?

Well I haven't compared the two yet, and on 128k mp3 stuff it's definitely a bit 'flat', but the lossless stuff sounded pretty good, and for 65 quid to stick a playlist on in the lounge (albeit without remote control), bit of a bargain I'd say.......

Oh, and no dropout at all as far as I can tell, running through a 'G' router.

I've used an Airport Express for a good few years now, and it's still going strong - just does what it needs to with no fuss (and very little expense).

sounds good, could be a really versatile solution with laptop acting as a remote with all of your music stored onto it

Yep - all mine's on the mac in the kitchen, but if it's on your laptop then off you go. Fairly sure it has an optical out (through the headphone socket) too, so you can add a DAC and have an audiophile setup for peanuts (assuming amp and speakers are such).

Re: Isn't Airport Express great?

One question.......would it be possible to use an airport express with a mac connected to the internet via ethernet and then use the macs built in airport to communicate with the airport express?

As far as I can tell, yes - google "airtunes", which seems to be what you describe, as distinct from a normal wireless network, but best confirm that with your own research.

Er roughly 6 and a half haircuts including a tip I think you'll find.
