Onkyo is showcasing its range of 5.1 and 2.1 home cinema in a box systems, including the £600 LSV501 2.1 system, which offers universal playback (DVD-Audio/Video, SACD and DiVX), 50w per channel and includes an active 100w subwoofer, and the cute tabletop iPod-docking system above, the CBX-300.

More intriguing is the yet-to-be-released HTX-22HD 2.1 'virtual surround' system (below), which can decode the new high-definition audio formats via HDMI. It's due on sale in July, price to be confirmed.

Andy, you sure you got the correct top picture above? of the LSV501 2.1 system . . . looks like something a little more portable to me.

btw I thought I'd added a similar comment last night but there's no sign of it. I'm not a stickler or anything but I've been looking at these Onkyo one boxes for a few weeks now and am undecided whether to dust off the Arcam AV50, the TDL RTL2's and the Mission centre speaker and buy a Pioneer DV600 OR buy the Onkyo. I think the dusted off three speaker set-up will give me better sound for films (centre speaker will anchor the dialogue to the 37 Pana Plasma better). What would you do?

Yes, sorry, in the heat of the Bristol Show seems I got my model numbers confused! The picture in fact shows the new CBX-300 iPod docking system, not the LS-V501. Apologies! Copy has been corrected.

The new 2.1 boxes coming to market in the next few months - from JVC and now Onkyo - don't have Blu Ray built in. I have to ask, what's the point launching stuff that's already obsolete?

Can anyone make my wait for a future-oriented solution more bearable and say whether there's an updated Denon S-302, or similar, in the works?

I'm hearing you Gnork ! I know technology is always evolving and these things can't be future proofed but at the very least the should include the best of what's available today. Just thinking about it makes me go all cynical . . . .

Hi There, any ideas when the new all in one Onkyo CBX is coming out?

Also anyone got any views on which is best the new Jamo i200 or the Onkyo or even the Denon S50. Grateful for comments as nothing seems to be written on these products
