Following Toshiba's decision to pull the plug on HD DVD, we're likely to see a rash of new Blu-ray players coming to market.
First up is the Denon DVD-2500BT transport which made its debut at the Bristol Sound and Vision Show last weekend.
Denon used a production-ready US version at Bristol, which uses the company's own Blu-ray transport, developed for this model and the forthcoming DVD-3800BD.
The 2500 outputs a full HD audio and video signal via HDMI 1.3a and can be used with any multichannel amp or receiver with the necessary HDMI inputs and decoding.
Denon demonstrated the transport at Bristol with £10,000 worth of its own electronics (AVP/POA-A1HD processor/power amp), a £20k projectiondesign Aurora projector and a £20K set of B&W speakers.
Technical highliights of the DVD-2500BT include:

- Second Audio-and Video decoder, Picture-in-Picture
- HDMI 1.3a interface for HD-Audio/Video output
- Compatible with HDMI Deep Colour
- Rigid Multi Layer Chassis Construction
- Further improved original Denon S.V.H. transport mechanism
- Output of Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Bitstream
- Native output of 1080p, 24 Hz HD sources
- High-definition scaler for DVD up to 1.080p (50, 60 Hz)
Meanwhile, in a separate development, Marantz has confirmed it will launch its BD8002 Blu-ray player in August, at a price of around £1500, with further Blu-ray models to follow.
And Harman Kardon has confirmed it will release its own Blu-ray player in September for around £450-£500.
