A great introduction to noise-isolation 'phones with great sound quality. The model comes supplied with different sized ear-pieces, small, medium and large either in foam and rubber. Foam is the best option as its provides the snuggest fit (in my opinion) and adds an extra weight to the bass. It's a well-worn cliche but you really do hear sounds that you hadn't noticed before. The only negative is the lack of bass; upper and mid-bass is okay but deep bass is becomes distorted.

The noise isolation offered is superb, second to none. Putting them on truly gives the experience of being in a oasis of calm amongst chaos. Like a previous reviewer, I too commute to the City from Croydon and I regard my Shure headphones and my IPOD essential secondly only to my keys.

I've now upgraded to Shure SE-420 which offers the same level of noise-isolation but with better bass and overall a more clearer sound.

I bought these on the strength of the review in the magazine and my first impressions were of the sound isolation being quite surreally impressive but the sound quality being a bit flat and certainly not as good as the iGrados they were replacing (the iGrados having stopped working properly due to a split cable). Then a couple of weeks later I suddenly found myself thinking that they were sounding great, much more vibrant than they were before. I've since read somewhere that they take a bit of running in. However, they have recently developed an annoying fizzy sound when playing certain frequencies at quite high (though not full) volume.

Fantastic headphones, especially if you can get them on offer - occasionally they turn up for £20 on play.com so worth keeping your eye open! I use mine on bus and train trips and secretly smile to myself as I see kids shouting or couples arguing (common sight in Croydon!) but all I can hear is blissful music!
