Just bought this from Tech7, instore Mbro, house of fraser ???209. Works a treat & updated itself on installation, wether it's any better than my PS3, is debatable....

Hi.

With all this home cinema stuff being new to me and based on the review of this blu-ray player I indeed took the plunge and went out and purchased it - ESPECIALLY as I only had a single free digitial co-axial socket free on my Onkyo 506 AV amp.

No however, I have to say I feel pretty darn miffed as having purchased a nice new digital coaxial cable to go with it, when I finally got it out and went to plug it all in  - LO and BEHOLD there is NO digital co-axial output on it, only an optical out.  The review clearly stated that it has ALL the required outputs except 5.1 analogue and it says in the TECH SPECS - Digital Co-axial = 1.

I have to say that I have now spent £250 for something that I can not actually use with my AV amplifier unless I continually change over the digital optical cables.

I would be very grateful for an explanation of this please What Hi-Fi!

Bazzy, Viera Cast will have a selection of different widgets but these will vary in each European country.

The only ones confirmed for the UK so far are YouTube, Picasa and a weather channel, but more are expected to be added in June.

Yes. You access Viera-Cast through the Blu-ray player so you don't need to have a Panasonic TV. To use the DLNA functionality you do need a compatible TV, but again, this doesn't have to be a Panasonic set.

Hi,

Do the Viera-Cast functions & features work with non Panasonic sets - like a Pioneer PDP-LX5090 for example?  Does Viera-Cast have a selection of widgets to choose from or is it juts basically You-Tube and Picassa and that's it? What about the DLNA & Networking features - can they also be used in the same way?

Bazzy!
