Thumping good fun in many ways, but sonically it's not as rounded as it ought to be to keep pace with some highly competitive rivals

Some days back I bought a onkyo 876 receiver

I do not agree this review from onkyo 876

I think the onkyo 876 receiver almost same that onkyo 876, but 876 contains dynamic eq and second HDMI output yet.

If  the onkyo 875 have got 5 stars, consequently the onkyo 876 would have got 5 stars, because the onkyo 876 in no way inferior to onkyo 875.

Recently i was hearing the denon 230ö receiver.

well it is depressed, powerless  equipment, and nothing details in sound's.

I agree with the looks comment.

I too disagree with this review, i've owned several onkyo amps and i've been impressed with every one.

The sound is awesome, especially when adding a conditioner. i'm running a cambridge audio azur 840a v.2 from the aux out and its added loads of detail.

my only problem is every one i've had i've had to get it replaced due to hdmi witching board faults.

"it now seems something of a blunt instrument next to rivals boasting superior agility, clarity and accuracy."

Your review comments had me scratching my head in puzzlement.

I have the 875 and yes, straight out of the box I did find it closed in, lacking some clarity. But, and this is a BIG but, feeding it off a dedicated spur through a Tacima and a Russ Andrews powercord it transformed it into a very foot tapping music performance.

I can only conclude that the Onkyo reacts more badly to mains borne polution than others on your test.

Thats a pity as Onkyo only needed to put in a couple of resistors and caps on the power supply to sort this out!

I have to agree with Dave Rich. I believe that the review given to this reciever not accurate. I have recently spent ours and ours listening to various receivers and especialy comparing the Yamaha 863 and Pioneer lx-71 and I must say that Onkyo is by far the best receiver. I will agreee that its a bit pricy BUT you get what you pay....for an all round receiver its one of the best out there.

I cannot agree with this review. The 876 is absolutely fantastic. I have listened to the supposedly superior sounding Yamaha and found it to be coloured and quite false in its presentation. BTW all Yamaha AV Amps have issues with passing BTB & WTW, check out the AVS Forum for details. This is important for those that are serious about video. The reviewers comments about the ISF makes you wonder if he even got the thing out of the box. Very sloppy and unproffesional ! As for the comments about power output, where are the measurement figures to back up your claim, again shoddy unproffessional work. Verdict on review D- Must try harder ! The onkyo 876 is the best av amp out there for under a grand by a country mile.

Just because an amp is twice the price of another doesn't necessarily mean it's twice as good. The Yamaha may not have all the video processing of the Onkyo, but in our view it is more enjoyable to listen to with both films and music. And it's available at a highly competitive price.

I own an 875 and it is superb , but having listened to my mate`s 876 I`ve got to say that  that is even better ! The detail and accuracy that was a major plus point in your reviews of the 875 are still there .... and more so ! I`ve not heard the Yamaha , but common sense tells me that an amp that I can currently buy for less than £500 can not be seriously compared to an amp ,from any manufacturer, that is twice that price.

I must agree with Wi.  This unit is stunning.  I started with the 606, moved on to the 875 from Richer Sounds - great deal, but since getting a projector as well needed 2 HDMI out.  Really puzzled by the ISF comments.  It's on the main menu - source set up, picture adjust.  It works a treat.

The sound is fantastic at lower volumes with the new Audyssey feature.  I say, "well done Onkyo!"

I disagree strongly; I owned the LX-60 Pioneer and was disappointed so I changed (never had Onkyo before) to the Onkyo TX-SR876 and this was my best choice since DSP-A1 from Yamaha years ago (remember?) ! The Onkyo is more than great; it's a steal, EXCELLENT ; the sound is fabulous and also with concert dvd's !!! The Audyssey worked flawlessly and I like the "dynamic EQ" feature. The detail is there even at low volume which I never had on the Pioneer. Maybe it has something also to do with speakers and naturally you can't beat M&K speakers. I heard that M&K formerly used Onkyo at their (now closed) factory for testing, so...

Anyway, I for sure recommend this Onkyo most strongly if not only for the price which is excellent for what you get (the Pioneers are too expensive after all as well). A fan.

Shame that they did not change the looks as well.
