We’re still big fans of the TX-SR606, but new models from rival brands have seriously upped the ante

Bought the 606 a few weeks ago, against my former Sony 1200ES - IT IS GREAT. It decodes DD True HD and DTS MA, I can route my three HDMI's, Sony BD350, Panny DVD Rec and Humax Freesat to the Panny on the wall. The sound and vision is fabulous but most of all, and little commented on, is the versatility of the Remote control. At last I can have just the one R/C for all the boxes, its almost worth the cost of the amp alone. Speakers are B&W except for the sub - a Mordaunt Short MS309i.

We prefer films with dialogue, and since many actors seem to mumble a lot, it helps to have these higher quality soundtracks available.

The ONKYO display shows if it is receiving DTS MA or DD MA, and my 5 month old Panny Bluray was not outputting these, despite its ability to do so. A replacement Sony BD350 was secured via the excellent after sales service from John Lewis.

Unless you need enormous power, this is a fine AV Amp, and with a reduced price from my local Sevenoaks, made it  an easy decision to buy.

Hi got my 606 today and have no humming sound

If it helps I have it rigged up with a ps3 a samsung 1080p lcd,Q Acoustics 1010i speaker package,Marantz 6001 dvd player,media center pc.

and all cables are QED ( HDMI and speaker cable )and all are plugged into a surge protector.

Hope this helps.

And I love the sound quality and build of this amp.

I just recently purchased the 606 and am more than happy with it so far,it has the 4 HDMI inputsand can control all my other stuff, Pioneer, Samsung, and my V+ box the sound qualityI obtain from my MS Alumni speakers is more than adequate for our living room, and can honestly say I havent had a problem with any humming.Overall for the price its a litle belter. The auto setup feature is not perfect though after initial installation I had to experiment with the speaker calibration to achieve a more realistic volume for the centre speaker as initially the dialogue was too quiet, and I had to keep adjusting the volume levels up and down when action sequences were far too loud, but once that was sorted its now fine.

Why do you not give the HDMI spec. is it I.3 ?  and why do you not comment on its HD multi-channel sound ?   Disbeliever

Not impressed...loads of features etc etc..

Try the amp with a PS3 at 1080p with 7.1 audio..you get a very loud hum..i thought it was my hdmi cables..so i invested in some expensive cables..i thought it was my power surge..so i bought the Tacima..i troubleshooted for days...then i went here:

and found other users with the same issue..apparently the 605 did the same thing and its not fixed in the 606..

think ill be returining mine!

There's not much point posting questions here, as it is intended for user reviews.

You'd be better off asking questions in the forums.

Which is the most musical receiver. Does the forthcoming Pioneer LX 51 receiver decode DSD via HDMI ?

When compared with the best the Denon doesn’t display the same level of clarity with Blu-ray or DVD soundtracks. It lacks the agility and outright dynamics of either Yamaha, while it can’t quite match the Sony for timing and detail with CD playback
