I bought these BR2's & i agree with the majority, for the price tag nothing much can compete not only with sound quality but looks, finish & build quality. It would take some serious extra cash to splash out to get a better set of speakers.
I can recommend anyone to buy a pair if they are in the market for a pair of speakers at this price range.
I have mine sat on a pair on soundstage Z1's & im very happy with them being run with my Yamaha 863se av amp. Running bi-wire.

AND IAM A DEALER IN HOME CINEMA AND HI-FI AND WHAT YOU GET FOR YOUR MONEY IS A SPEAKER WHAT SOUNDS AS GOOD AS £600+ WHAT HIFI SORT YOUR REVIEWS OUT! PEOPLE WHO GO OUT AND BUY EXPENSIVE SPEAKERS CAN EASILY BE TEMPTED BY PRICE TAGS. JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE EXPENSIVE DOSE NOT MAKE THEM SOUND EXPENSIVE. I KNOW AS I DEAL WITH THIS EVERYDAY

I bought my BR2's before I'd listened to some speakers costing 3 and 4 times as much and as far as I'm concerned I've saved myself quite a bit of money!. The extra cost does not justify the tiny performance gains that my ears picked up. Even at their new list price they are a bargain not to be ignored. Yes, they do have quite a muscular delivery which may not be everyone's cup of tea but then it's all subjective.

I bought a pair and think, for the price you cannot go wrong. The bass is very good(not overpowering).I only lissen to heavy/metal on vinyl. The pair i got was to replace a pair of JPW`s i bought new back in 1990. I have a cyrus 8 and find the sound is big with out being budget, hope that makes sence.

Good, but not great. I don't know what it is about these speakers, but I just don't find them pleasant to listen too. I've had mine for over a year now and expected to have be used to the sound they produce. The mid-range is clear enough (perhaps too clear) and the sound is highly detailed, but for me, the overall lack of bass makes leaves a BIG hole. The bass is lacking to the extent that on certain tracks, the bass line has be totally removed as if a high pass filter has been applied.
For the money, I guess they are ok, but are seriously overrated.

The Monitor Audio BR2s are budget speakers, but only in price. They have an exciting, big-boned sound and are very even across the frequency range, with very good, tuneful bass for cabinets of this size. They are capable of impressively high detail levels and soundstaging is pin sharp whether recreating a rock band or full orchestra.
The BR2s do, however, need much higher quality electronics than you'd expect to perform at their best and solid stands (along the lines of the Atacama Nexus 6) are absolutely vital. Good quality speaker cables are also essential. As a minimum use Chord Company Carnival Silverscreen, but ideally go that little bit extra for Chord's Rumour 2 which really helps to bring out the many impressive qualities of these well made and good looking speakers.

Yes these are great speakers for £200 or £230. The money has been spent well on quality drivers and a good crossover for a smooth full sound, imaging is good detail is excellent and driver intergration is superb. The bass has a real kick for such a compact design and goes low with ease.
It does lack a touch of bite but in reality this makes them non fatiguing to listen to for extended periods. Compared to somewhat more expensive speakers they have a slight nasal quality to the midrange and the bass end can be a touch lumpy if not positioned correctly. Otherwise they are superb speakers.
Mine are even better now i have ripped out the rather cheap foam from inside and placed 6mm bitumen damping on all the inside walls and then filled the entire space with lambs wool. The bass is now better defined and the midrange has lost its slight honk. Detail has improved too. All for £40 and a few spare hours. Couldn't be happier!

This is certainly a fantastic pair of speakers, and for the price quoted, DIRT CHEAP! It is remarkable how these speakers can sound good even with components that are thrice it's price. I had a pair of these hooked up to various combinations of amp/cd, the cheapest being a Rotel RA-02, and in any combination, it sounded great. The bass/treble is very balanced. I would recommend it very highly without any reservation whatsoever. A fantastic pair of speakers!
The B&W 685s speakers are superb performers for the money, and they are our current favourites at this price level
