Great for the money, and we forgive the poor connectivity at this price

  • For

DAB radio; good sound and build

  • Against

No inputs and only a headphone out

Let’s begin by stating a fact that ought to be completely obvious: you’re getting a lot for your money here. At just £100, this neat Ministry of Sound micro is a class act. It’s not as good as Award-winning micros costing upwards of £300, but it gets far closer to them than it ought considering its phenomenally low price.

Best of all, the MOSMC130 includes a DAB radio tuner (as well as an analogue FM/AM one) and the obligatory CD player. Some micro-system manufacturers have taken the DAB facility as an excuse to push the price up, so MOS gets more Brownie points for offering DAB in such an affordable package.

Compromise is inevitable for £100
At this price, sacrifices have to be made: there are no connections on the back panel apart from the spring-clip speaker terminals. However, build quality is good for the money, and it performs decently enough with a strong, dynamic performance that offers impressively weighty yet well-defined bass.

The performance isn’t perfect by any means, with some rough edges, but for a unit costing just £100, the sound is extremely accomplished, and somewhat better than it has any right to be. All in all, this is a fabulous bargain.
