Reasonably priced; striking looks; balanced sound; open presentation

Remote is too small and slippery

There’s a lot to admire about the Klipsch iGroove HG. The unit's curved, glossy black chassis combines with a weighty feel to give the impression that you're getting a lot of dock for your money.

Peer through the grille and you can just about make out the unit's dual woofers and MicroTractrix horn-loaded tweeters.

Some entry-level speaker docks can be blighted by tinny treble or boomy bass, but the Klipsch suffers from no such issues. In fact, the overall balance of sound is nicely judged.

The open presentation encourages a dynamic, expressive sound. Spin Goldfrapp’s cover of It’s Not Over Yet and the iGroove picks out impressive levels of detail in the strings and vocal.

Switch to dance music and it proves that it can kick out more than enough bass weight and definition for a product like this.

So easy to get started
Simply slot an iPod Touch, iPhone or Classic in the cradle and secure it using the sliding back-rest. iPod mini and nano owners can use the supplied adaptors, and even if you don’t own an iPod, then you can swap the cradle for the interestingly titled ‘J-Cup’, which has a 3.5mm jack for feeding sound from alternative media players.

One slight drawback is the remote control, which is too tiny and slippery for its own good.

Still, for the money, you can’t pick any serious faults with the iGroove HG. It does exactly what it says on the box, and does it extremely well to boot.
