These in-ears defy their curious shape by proving comfortable and – more importantly – a superbly balanced listen

Bass possesses much weight; secure and comfortable

  • Against

    Not overtly spacious

Just like the more expensive Klipsch X10s, these X5s are a heck of a lot more secure and comfortable to wear than their pokey shape suggests.

They don't sound as open or spacious as some rivals at this price-point, giving the impression that the performance is coming from inside your head, but detail, tonal balance and rhythm is excellent.

Play Bonnie 'Prince' Billie's Beware Your Only Friend and the bassline boasts terrific depth, weight and texture, while the vocal remains clear and emotive and treble is perfectly well-behaved.

It turns out the excellent X10s were no accidental success.
