  • For

Plenty of power; clear audio benefits

  • Against

The expense; no great improvement with video

This substantial 10kg slab from Isotek is the Sigmas mains conditioner. It offers six power sockets, two with higher power ratings – ideal for current-hungry products such as power amplifiers and plasma TV screens.

The idea is to negate the effect of outside noise, cleaning up your power signal and improving your components’ performance. In our reference system it clearly gave a cleaner sound, but switch to a vision product and the effect was not so noticeable – testimony perhaps to the improvements in flatscreen TVs’ power supplies.

For owners of high-end hi-fi systems, the improvements the Sigmas can bring are worthy of exploration, but at £995 it’s not quite a complete all-rounder.
