Cyrus DAB 8.0

A flexible tuner, with fine sound from high-quality broadcasts, but it's hampered by DAB quality – and that fiddly recording

I bought my cyrus dab 8 tuner to complete my cyrus hi-fi system. Previously I had a cambridge audio dab 640T tuner which didn't look right with my cyrus v8 amp and CD 6se player. Now my system looks neat and compact. When it arrived I was slightly disappointed to find two tiny black marks (too small to fuss about, but large enough to be annoying) behind the display screen. As a dab tuner the sound is very good (8/10). For ease of use, ie tuning and changing channel, very good (8/10). For pausing and restarting, very good (8/10). For recording (6/10). If you use a SD card with a storage capacity greater than 1gB it doesn't like it. It took me ages to find a retailer that sold 1gB cards, as the smallest card size in the shops is now 2gB. I have bought five 1gB cards in case I need them in the future. For deleting recordings, it is poor (3/10). It returns to a live channel after deleting, but you can't hear sound. You have to move through the sound options (dab/fm/sd card) to return to sound. In general, I'm pleased with the tuner, but if I had a different system (not cyrus), I would not have bought it. As for the rest of my hi-fi system, excellent, excellent, excellent (100/10).
