Unlike some of the more colourful headphones around, the Audio Technica ATH-ES55s boast a subtle and sedate look.
They’re also expensive for this type of headphone. But, in this case, the price premium is justified thanks to the excellent sound quality on offer.
Spin a tune and there’s great balance and transparency to the sound. In fact, the 'ES55s come closest of any of the portable headphones we've heard to hiding the traditional pitfalls of a closed-back design.
Music is presented in an open and honest manner, allowing detail and dynamics to shine through. Impressive.
